On March 26, the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Police Department questioned and recorded statements from the driver and the owner of the ambulance, which was used to attend a film premiere, causing public controversy.
Videos circulating on social media showed an ambulance with its siren blaring and emergency lights flashing, making its way to a crowded film premiere in Ho Chi Minh City. Once the vehicle stopped, several well-known actors and celebrities emerged and entered the event, while numerous cameras and smartphones captured the unusual scene.
The incident sparked public outrage, with many condemning the misuse of the ambulance for non-emergency purposes. The Traffic Police Department quickly initiated an investigation and took steps to address the issue.
The authorities confirmed that the incident occurred on the afternoon of March 26 at the Mega GS cinema (Ward 2, District 3) during a film premiere. That evening, the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Police Department summoned driver B.T.S. (42 years old, residing in Hoc Mon District) and the ambulance owner to record their statements.
Driver S. admitted that at 6:10 p.m. on March 26, he drove the ambulance, bearing license plate 50D-330..., using the siren and emergency lights to transport the film's director, actors, and producers to the Mega GS cinema for the premiere. After the celebrities exited the vehicle, the driver turned off the siren and lights and drove away.
The traffic police fined driver S. approximately USD 105 for improperly using priority signaling devices. Additionally, they recorded a violation against the vehicle owner and revoked the permit to use priority signaling equipment.
