As the 2025 Lunar New Year approaches, the bustling Sa Dec flower village in Dong Thap Province is alive with traders, gardeners, and visitors preparing for the festive season.

By the end of the twelfth lunar month, approximately 80% of the flowers in Sa Dec, one of Vietnam's most renowned flower villages, have been pre-ordered by traders, according to local gardeners.

The flowers will remain on display for another five days to attract visitors for photography before being harvested and delivered to buyers.

An iconic flower hub

Located in Sa Dec City, the village has a history spanning over 100 years and is famous for its diverse and vibrant flower varieties.

With over 600 households involved in floriculture across nearly 300 hectares, the village produces an estimated 2 million flower pots each Tet season.

The flowers include traditional favorites like marigolds, chrysanthemums, and roses, as well as newer varieties such as petunias, orchids, and gerberas.

The colorful arrays not only adorn local homes but also travel to markets across southern Vietnam, making Sa Dec a key player in the nation’s Tet flower trade.

Preserving beauty for visitors

In addition to fulfilling commercial orders, Sa Dec's flower gardens are a popular destination for tourists during the lead-up to Tet.

Many gardens keep flowers on display, allowing visitors to take in the sights and capture photographs amidst the vibrant blooms.

A gardener noted, “Even though most of the flowers are pre-sold, we always keep some for display to enhance the Tet experience for visitors. It’s a tradition we are proud to maintain.”

With nearly all flowers already reserved, Sa Dec flower village reflects the growing demand for fresh blooms during Tet.

The success of the village is also a testament to the dedication of local farmers, whose year-round efforts ensure a vibrant and bountiful celebration for families across the region.
