The ancient town of Hoi An and management board of Cham Islands Marine Protected Area (MPA) officially celebrated the 15th anniversary of the UNESCO award at a special ceremony.

The community’s collaborative marine conservation efforts in recent years have provided sustainable livelihoods for the residents of Cham Islands in Quang Nam Province.

Craft and eco-tourism have merged on the Chàm Islands, located off the coast of the ancient town of Hội An. Visitors to the islands can now have hands-on experience in weaving a hammock using strings taken from tree barks.

Coral reefs off Cham Island have been well conserved with an average coverage of 59.16 per cent at seven sites following an annual reef check and coral clean-up programme.
