Vietnam’s coffee industry is experiencing unprecedented global demand, and Trung Nguyen Legend, led by Dang Le Nguyen Vu, is making a bold move to cement the nation’s leadership in the sector. The company has announced the construction of Southeast Asia’s largest coffee processing plant, a $80 million (over 2,000 billion VND) investment meeting Net Zero sustainability standards.

On March 10, Trung Nguyen Legend held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new energy-efficient coffee factory at the Tan An 2 Industrial Complex in Buon Ma Thuot. The event, a key highlight of the 9th Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival (March 9-13), signifies a major leap for Vietnam’s coffee industry.

According to Nguyen Tuan Ha, Vice Chairman of the Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee and Head of the Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival Organizing Committee, the Trung Nguyen Legend Energy Coffee Factory will be the company’s second in Dak Lak province. He emphasized that this investment will not only advance Vietnam’s coffee processing industry but also create jobs, improve local livelihoods, and drive economic growth in the region.

A major step for Vietnam’s coffee industry

With a total investment exceeding $80 million, the project will be developed in two phases, with an initial investment of nearly $40 million. Spanning 50,000 square meters, the factory will have a maximum construction density of 60%, with over 20% allocated for greenery and water features, ensuring an environmentally friendly design.

This factory is expected to play a vital role in enhancing Vietnam’s coffee industry by increasing deep processing capacity, producing high-value coffee products, and integrating into multiple industrial supply chains. It is part of Trung Nguyen Legend’s broader vision to elevate Vietnam’s coffee sector through sustainable and high-quality production.

The new facility will be the company’s fifth coffee production plant in Vietnam and its second in Buon Ma Thuot, reinforcing the city’s status as the country’s coffee capital.

Vietnam’s coffee Industry on the rise

Coffee remains one of Vietnam’s key export commodities. In 2024, Vietnam’s coffee exports exceeded $5 billion, ranking it among the country’s top 10 export products.

Buon Ma Thuot’s Robusta coffee has gained significant global recognition, becoming increasingly popular in major coffee-consuming markets such as Germany, Italy, China, the U.S., Japan, Spain, and Indonesia. This highlights Vietnam’s growing influence in the global coffee trade.

Despite Vietnam’s large coffee harvest - estimated at 530,000 tons per crop year from more than 200,000 hectares in Dak Lak - only about 20% of the yield undergoes deep processing.

Recognizing this untapped potential, Dak Lak authorities are actively encouraging businesses to invest in advanced processing technologies, aiming to boost coffee’s added value and meet the rising global demand for high-quality processed coffee.
