HCM City authorities have tightened COVID prevention measures by setting up 25 task forces in 21 districts and Thu Duc City, and improving testing capacity to one million samples per day.

As many as 189 people have tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus in five localities across Vietnam during the past 12 hours, raising its national cumulative caseload to 17,052.

More than 20,000 people in Phu Tho Hoa Ward in Tan Phu District in HCM City on June 29 waited in line to have samples taken for nCoV testing in a large-scale screening campaign.

Despite drastic measures, the Covid-19 outbreak developments in HCM City remain complicated. The enforced social distancing period will end on June 30 and it has been difficult for the city to decide whether to extend the period.

A total of 372 COVID-19 infections were recorded on Tuesday, bringing the country's total cases to 16,413 so far, according to the Ministry of Health.
