Cybercriminals are using AI-powered tools to create highly convincing fake websites mimicking Booking, Airbnb, TikTok, and Telegram, making it increasingly difficult for users to detect fraudulent schemes.

According to a recent report from Kaspersky, hackers are exploiting the reputations of major platforms to steal personal data and spread malware.

The travel season from May to July sees a surge in scams targeting tourists with fake airline ticket deals and fraudulent hotel bookings.

One of the most common methods is creating counterfeit login pages for well-known brands. TikTok Shop has become a prime target, with scammers tricking sellers into entering their credentials on fake login pages, leading to account takeovers and financial losses.

Fraudsters also capitalize on trending topics, such as the Hamster Kombat crypto game on Telegram, to lure victims into phishing schemes.

Scams impersonating celebrities and brands offering giveaways have also increased, enticing users to participate in fake promotions that never deliver any promised rewards.

Businesses are also under attack, with spam emails and malicious attachments posing a growing risk. In 2024, over 125 million infected files were detected, and an alarming one in every two emails received by businesses contained spam or phishing attempts.

Hackers frequently disguise these emails as court summons or official notices to trick recipients into opening malicious links.

Although scam techniques remain largely the same, criminals are refining their methods. They now combine multiple brand names on a single fraudulent site and use AI-generated interfaces to make fake websites almost indistinguishable from legitimate ones.

Security expert Olga Svistunova from Kaspersky warns that AI tools are enabling cybercriminals to create more realistic phishing websites, increasing the difficulty of identifying scams.

These fraudulent activities not only result in financial losses but also jeopardize personal data security. To protect themselves, users should be cautious when opening emails, click only on links from trusted sources, and carefully verify website addresses before logging in or making online transactions.
