A driver was fined VND 13 million (approximately USD 520) for illegally stopping his car and allowing his family to spread a mat and eat by the side of the Noi Bai – Lao Cai Expressway.

Illegal roadside meal leads to hefty fine

On February 3, the Traffic Patrol Unit No. 1 (under the Traffic Police Department, Ministry of Public Security) reported that officers had issued a fine for a driver who stopped on the expressway for a roadside meal.

At 11:25 AM, patrol officers spotted a car with license plate 14A-797.XX illegally parked at Km133+400 in the Lao Cai – Hanoi direction. Upon closer inspection, they found four individuals sitting on a mat, enjoying a meal just meters away from speeding vehicles.

Driver’s explanation and consequences

The driver, V.A.T. (born 1980, residing in Me Linh, Hanoi), admitted that he stopped at the location for convenience, allowing his family to eat by the expressway.

Traffic police officers warned him about the extreme dangers of such behavior before issuing a formal penalty for illegally stopping and parking on the expressway.

Under current traffic regulations, the violation carries a VND 13 million fine (USD 520), and the driver will have points deducted from his license.
