The live-action film Snow White failed to meet revenue expectations in Vietnam despite its massive production budget. Its earnings were only half that of the 18+ horror film Evil Incarnation over the past weekend.

The casting controversy surrounding Rachel Zegler, a person of color, in the role of Snow White ultimately backfired on Disney. The live-action remake of the iconic 1937 animated classic, despite its grand scale, fell significantly short of expectations.

Disney invested $240 million (about 6,000 billion VND) in the film, but it flopped upon release last weekend. In North America, Snow White grossed just over $40 million. Its global revenue for the first three days barely reached $90 million. In Vietnam, although it ranked second at the box office, it only garnered $232,000 from more than 53,000 tickets sold.

Meanwhile, the 18+ horror film Evil Incarnation continued to dominate the box office in its third week. Last weekend, it earned $464,000 with nearly 130,000 tickets sold, bringing its total revenue to approximately $5.7 million, according to Box Office Vietnam.

The South Korean action-comedy film The Killer: A Bloody Mission ranked third at the box office, earning $154,000 over the weekend and surpassing the $1.2 million mark overall.

Another 18+ Korean film, The Super Hard Task, which delves into the world of specialists who "erase" intimate scenes, ranked fourth due to its unique theme but only earned $134,000 amid the low point of the box office season.

Ranking fifth was The Abyss, a film originally released in 2014 and reintroduced to IMAX theaters last weekend with just 84 screenings.

Despite the limited showings, it sold 14,000 tickets and grossed $102,000 over the weekend, bringing its cumulative earnings to $1.2 million - a remarkable feat for a re-released film.
