A fishing vessel capsized off the coast of Phu Quy Island in Vietnam’s Binh Thuan Province, leaving two fishermen missing. Twenty crew members were rescued in time by authorities.

On April 2, the Binh Thuan Border Guard Command confirmed that they had successfully rescued and brought 20 fishermen safely ashore following the sinking incident near Phu Quy Island.

The incident occurred around 6:00 PM on April 1, when fishing boat BTh 97877 TS, captained by Mai Van Hien (50 years old, residing in Tam Thanh Commune, Phu Quy District), began taking on water while operating off the coast.

The boat was about 27 nautical miles south of Phu Quy Island at the time and was carrying a total of 22 people.

Upon realizing the severity of the situation, the captain issued an emergency distress signal, requesting immediate rescue assistance.

In response, the Binh Thuan Border Guard Command deployed rescue vessel CN 09 BP 11.19.01, along with 14 officers and soldiers, to assist in the emergency operation.

By 10:50 PM the same evening, the rescue team reached the distressed vessel and managed to rescue 20 crew members. However, two fishermen remain unaccounted for.

Currently, authorities are coordinating with local fishing boats in the area to intensify search and rescue efforts for the missing individuals.
