Vietnamese Polaris Art & Music School is the festival representative and will host the event with video and live competitions.

The festival integrates Chinese and foreign musicals, pop, modern and various music and cultural activities.

The preliminary winners will compete in the final round in Hong Kong this August.

“It gives contestants a chance to perform professionally,” said pianist Nguyễn Lệ Thuyên Hà, Polaris Art & Music School’s art director and head of the preliminary round organisation.

“Unlike other music competitions, HKIMF is a community activity held for all people with no age limit in the world, aiming to exchange international culture and popularising music with live performances of classical, pop, folk, jazz music and others.

“Participating in the final round at HKIMF, the contestants will have a chance to exchange with others from all over the world, and internationally popular jurors will judge them.”

Top three will receive a scholarship, HKIMF's trophy and certification.

The preliminary’s jury panel includes Thailand’s pianist San Jittakarn, Vietnamese pianist Đào Trọng Tuyên – Head of Piano Faculty at Việt Nam Academy of Music, guitarist and head of Jazz Guitar Faculty at the academy Lương Xuân Thịnh and other musicians.

Jittakarn graduated from the Juilliard School and Yale University. He won third prize at the Geneva International Competition and second at the Shigeru Kawai International Piano Competition.

He has performed with Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Orchestre Symphonique de l’Amamusique and Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra.

On this occasion, Jittakarn will perform Chopin's pieces at 7.30pm at Polaris Art & Music School, at Cung Xuân Centre, No.1 Võ Thị Sáu Street in Hà Nội.

Vietnamese pianist Tuyên received PhD in music performance from Montreal University with globally-known pianist Đặng Thái Sơn. He is one of the leading piano soloists in Việt Nam.

HKIMF was first held in 2013, attracting about 3,000 participants. The number of participants had increased to nearly 90,000, with more than 150 countries and regions participating globally for the sixth time in 2019.

This year, the 1st International Society for Music Education Summit will be held at the festival. The festival and summit will last seven days, from August 20 to 26, at the Sha Tin Rural Committee Building and Wu Ka Sha Youth Village.
