On February 7, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health issued an urgent directive to enhance flu prevention and control efforts.
While the city has not observed any abnormalities in flu patient admissions and treatments, the department warned of favorable weather conditions for respiratory infections to spread.
Health officials emphasized the need for proactive prevention measures to avoid public panic while also ensuring vigilance against potential outbreaks.
Public urged to wear masks and maintain hygiene
The department has instructed medical facilities to remind visitors, patients, and staff to wear face masks within healthcare premises and reinforce measures to prevent avian flu transmission to humans.
The Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control (HCDC) has been assigned to monitor suspected cases of severe viral pneumonia (SVP) and influenza, coordinate with hospitals and local health centers, and intensify public awareness campaigns.
Additionally, private clinics must report suspected flu cases to local health authorities for timely intervention.
Recommendations for the public
To minimize flu risks, the department advises residents to:
Cover their mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.
Wear masks in crowded places.
Wash hands frequently with soap and clean water or use hand sanitizers, especially after coughing or sneezing.
Avoid spitting in public areas.
Limit contact with flu-infected individuals unless necessary.
To strengthen immunity, residents are encouraged to get a flu vaccine, maintain a healthy lifestyle, eat nutritious meals, and engage in regular physical activity.
Anyone experiencing cough, fever, runny nose, headache, or fatigue should seek medical advice instead of self-medicating or conducting tests at home.
