As a result, nearly 19,000 students in the city will have to seek seats at private schools, continuing education centers, training systems at colleges and vocational schools, or international schools.
In addition, the city has more than 13,000 students who voluntarily did not register for the entrance exam to high school this year. Thus, more than 30,000 students in HCM City will not enter public high schools this year.
The 10th-grade entrance exam for public high schools in the upcoming school year in HCM City will be held on June 6-7.
The exam format will remain the same as last year. The exam has three subjects: mathematics, literature, and foreign language.
Students who take the entrance exam to high schools for the gifted or classes with integrated programs must take additional specialized tests.
Students must register online. A geographic information system (GIS) will help them calculate the distance between their home and school.
In Vietnam, the high school entrance exam is even tougher than the university entrance exam. If students fail to apply for a university, they can apply to other schools. If they cannot enter high school, they have to stay home or seek a place at a private school, continuing education center, vocational school, or an international school.
However, this is considered the last choice as tuition at private and international schools is unaffordable for most students, while the quality of training and the educational environment at continuing education centers and vocational schools are not praised.
