Despite a growth rate of 7.17 - slightly below the target of 7.5-8% - this accomplishment marks a significant contribution, accounting for 27% of the country’s total revenue.
This announcement was made during the 34th conference of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term, held on December 4. The meeting focused on evaluating and strategizing solutions for key areas, including party building, governance, socio-economic development, investment in Thu Thiem New Urban Area, and pandemic recovery efforts.
Speaking at the conference, Secretary Nen acknowledged the city’s mixed opportunities and challenges in 2024. He emphasized the Party’s commitment to strengthening governance, accelerating digital transformation, and fostering an effective public administration system.
Through collective efforts, the city has resolved many bottlenecks, enabling economic growth and improving citizens' quality of life. Nen praised the city’s resilience and collaboration with the business community, stating, “This is a commendable effort, contributing significantly to the country’s stability and socio-economic development.”
While acknowledging progress, Secretary Nen highlighted several persistent issues holding back the city’s growth. Infrastructure projects, housing initiatives, and environmental improvement efforts have not met expectations. Public investment disbursement also remains below target, requiring urgent attention and solutions.
“The 7.17% growth rate, though close to the goal, falls short and demands thorough review and corrective actions,” Nen stressed.
The conference also spotlighted the ongoing development of Thu Thiem New Urban Area. The city aims to complete the project by 2030, emphasizing infrastructure, investment, and administrative reforms.
“Delegates must focus on leadership and decision-making to address shortcomings, refine policies, attract investments, and ensure timely progress for Thu Thiem,” Nen directed.
In addition to economic goals, the city has made strides in strengthening Party leadership, combating corruption, and enhancing public administration. Regular inspections and oversight aim to build a professional and efficient government system.
The conference emphasized continuing these reforms to ensure Ho Chi Minh City’s sustainable development and its role as an economic leader in Vietnam.
