Under the Department of Tourism’s waterway tourism development plan from 2023 to 2025, at least 10 waterway tourism products will be introduced within the next two years, encompassing Saigon River routes such as Nha Be, Soai Rap, and Long Tau, as well as internal canal routes and collaborations with neighboring provinces.
To achieve this goal, HCMC will continue to enhance existing tourism products along routes such as Binh Quoi, Nhieu Loc-Thi Nghe, Cu Chi, and Can Gio.
Infrastructure for waterway tourism development, including berths at Tan Cang, Phu Xuan, Binh Hoa, and piers at Binh Quoi, will also undergo renovation.
The city will incorporate parking lots into the plan to ensure the safety and convenience of tourists. Additionally, private sector investments will be encouraged to establish 4-5 star boat restaurants, offering night-time travel experiences and sunset views on the Saigon River.
HCMC plans to build fuel stops that provide supporting services and local specialties to enhance the tourism experience.
Furthermore, to enhance waterway tourism services, new products will be developed, including a floating market near Tan Thuan Bridge on weekends, and a comprehensive city tour package from ports to surrounding districts such as Can Gio and Cu Chi.
The city will invest in the replacement of the deteriorating Rach Dia 2 iron bridge and increase the clearance height of Phuoc Long Bridge to facilitate water transport to District 7.
For tours to districts 1, 4, 5, 6, and 8, waterbuses will be featured as a special tourism product to meet the travel demands of residents and tourists.
