As part of the Ho Chi Minh City Master Plan for 2021-2030, approved by the Prime Minister, the city is working toward establishing core urban rail corridors by 2030 and completing its metro system by 2050.

The proposed metro network includes twelve lines, consisting of eight radial metro lines, two circular metro lines, one riverfront tramway, and a potential MRT/LRT line to the Can Gio coastal development.

The city aims to integrate the metro system with Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) strategies, ensuring seamless connectivity with key urban centers, industrial zones, and regional hubs across Southeast Vietnam.

The Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line, already under construction, will be extended to Binh Chanh District. In addition, the city will develop eleven new metro lines, expanding connectivity across the region.

The sixth metro line, forming an inner ring spanning 53.8 km, will mainly serve Thu Duc City, District 7, and Binh Chanh, connecting Vo Chi Cong, Pham Van Dong, Tan Son Nhat Airport, Cong Hoa, and Lu Ban Bich.

The seventh metro line, measuring 51.2 km, will link Tan Kien in Binh Chanh to Depot Long Binh in Thu Duc, passing through Nguyen Van Linh, Phu My Hung, and Thanh Da.

The eighth metro line, covering 42.8 km, will stretch from Da Phuoc in Binh Chanh to Binh My in Cu Chi, passing through Pham Hung, Ngo Gia Tu, Dien Bien Phu, Hoa Hung, and Quang Trung Software Park.

The ninth metro line, spanning 28.3 km, will connect Binh Trieu in Thu Duc to Depot An Ha in Binh Chanh, with a route passing through No Trang Long, Le Van Duyet, and Tan Ky Tan Quy.

The tenth metro line, forming an outer ring spanning 83.9 km, will serve Thu Duc, Nha Be, Binh Chanh, and Hoc Mon, integrating Thu Thiem, Cat Lai, Linh Trung, and Tan Tao Industrial Park.

The city also plans to develop Tramway/LRT Line 11, a 48.7 km scenic riverfront tram line from Binh Tan District to Cu Chi, supporting tourism and urban expansion.

The MRT/LRT Line 12, a potential future project, will connect District 7 to Can Gio’s coastal urban area, serving the Can Gio reclamation project and boosting tourism. The 48.7 km route will follow Nguyen Van Linh, Nguyen Luong Bang, and Rung Sac Road.

With the expansion of its metro network, Ho Chi Minh City aims to improve public transportation, reduce traffic congestion, and promote sustainable urban development, strengthening its position as a leading metropolitan hub in Southeast Asia.
