The competition, the second major tournament in the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour 2022, is expected to attract eight talented chess prodigies, including Carlsen of Norway, Alireza Firouzja of France, Levon Aronian of the US, Anish Giri of the Netherlands, Jan-Krzysztof Duda of Poland, and Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa of India.
Liem successfully earned a ticket to enter the tournament thanks to his fourth place finish in the recent Champion Chess Tour.
Over the seven rounds of matches, the players will face one of their rivals each day. Every match consists of four rapid games with 15 minutes per player and a 10-second increment added each move.
The players will once again be competing online through chess24, with the total prize of US$210,000 on offer, along with an additional US$100,000 tied to the price of bitcoin provided by leading cryptocurrency exchange FTX.
Quang Liem shocked the world chess when he first defeated five-time world champion Carlsen at Oslo Esports Cup held in Norway in April 2022. In all previous encounters, the Vietnamese player could not make the headlines.
