This afternoon (February 20), the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council held a regular session to address personnel matters and review proposals submitted by the city's administration.

During the session, council members cast their votes, electing Nguyen Van Duoc, Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, to replace Phan Van Mai, who has been assigned to a new position. Duoc received 83 out of 84 votes in favor, achieving a 98.8% approval rate.
Previously, on the afternoon of February 19, the Politburo issued a decision reassigning and appointing Nguyen Van Duoc to step down from his positions in the Long An Provincial Party Committee, including his role as Secretary of the Long An Provincial Party Committee.
He was then appointed to the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, assuming the position of Deputy Secretary for the 2020-2025 term.
At the same time, the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee designated Duoc as a member of the city's Party Executive Committee and appointed him Secretary of the Party Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.
Speaking after his election as Chairman, Nguyen Van Duoc expressed his honor and pride in assuming this responsibility, acknowledging the challenges ahead and committing to fulfilling his duties diligently.
He pledged to build upon the achievements of his predecessors and uphold the spirit of solidarity to contribute to the city's economic and social development.
His immediate goal is to achieve the highest possible results for the city's objectives and targets as outlined in the Ho Chi Minh City Party Congress Resolution for the 2020-2025 term.
The newly appointed chairman also vowed to dedicate himself wholeheartedly to serving the people and the city's progress. He called for continuous support and guidance from central government leaders, the Ho Chi Minh City Party Secretary, local political organizations, and the collective unity of the city's administrative team.
Biography of Nguyen Van Duoc
Nguyen Van Duoc was born in 1968 in Long An province. He holds a Master's degree in Geology and has completed advanced political theory training.
From July 2006 to October 2013, he held various positions, including Director of the Land Registration Office of Long An province, Head of the Natural Resources and Environment Department of Thanh Hoa district, and Deputy Director and Director of the Long An Department of Natural Resources and Environment.
Between April 2013 and December 2015, he served as a Provincial Party Member and Secretary of the Tan Thanh District Party Committee in Long An.
From January 2016 to June 2016, he was a Member of the Standing Committee of the Long An Provincial Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the Long An People's Committee for the 2011-2016 term.
From June 2016 to April 2019, he continued as a Member of the Standing Committee and Vice Chairman of the Long An People's Committee for the 2016-2021 term.
Between April 2019 and October 2020, he held the position of Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Long An Provincial Party Committee for the 2015-2020 term.
On October 14, 2020, during the 11th Congress of the Long An Provincial Party Committee, he was elected Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term.
On November 11, 2020, he was officially appointed Secretary of the Long An Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Long An People's Council for the 2016-2021 term.
On January 30, 2021, during the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, he was elected as a member of the 13th Central Committee of the Communist Party for the 2021-2026 term.
On February 19, 2024, the Politburo reassigned and appointed him as Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee.
