President Luong Cuong inaugurated the Xuan Que Huong (Homeland Spring) 2025 celebration by striking the ceremonial drum and extending Lunar New Year greetings to Vietnamese communities worldwide.

The event, held on January 19 at the National Convention Center in Hanoi, is part of an annual series organized by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The program aims to bring together expatriates returning to their homeland for Tet, Vietnam’s traditional New Year.

Celebrating unity and cultural pride

This year’s Xuan Que Huong event, themed Vietnam – Rising in the New Era, welcomed approximately 1,500 overseas Vietnamese and their families alongside distinguished domestic guests.

Speaking on behalf of the Party and State leadership, President Luong Cuong expressed heartfelt wishes to the Vietnamese diaspora, emphasizing the enduring bond between expatriates and their homeland.

“Tet is not only a time for family reunions but also a moment to honor our nation’s cultural values and affirm our unbreakable connection to our roots,” he said.

The president highlighted Vietnam’s achievements in 2024 despite global challenges. He praised the resilience of overseas Vietnamese communities, who have maintained their determination in the face of adversity, contributed positively to their host countries, and elevated Vietnam’s reputation globally.

Acknowledging the diaspora’s contributions

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang, Chair of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, noted the significant role expatriates play in Vietnam’s development.

“Despite global complexities, Vietnam remains a beacon of peace, stability, and progress,” she said, commending the diaspora for advancing integration into their host societies and fostering Vietnam’s ties with the world.

Vietnamese expatriates have excelled in politics, science, and the arts, bringing pride to the nation. Many have been honored with international awards, showcasing Vietnam’s intellectual and cultural contributions globally.

A call for unity in the new era

President Luong Cuong emphasized the importance of solidarity among Vietnamese people, both at home and abroad, as the nation enters a pivotal period marked by significant anniversaries and milestones in 2025.

“Vietnam has endured the most challenging times, and our unyielding spirit has propelled us to rise from the mud and shine,” he said, invoking a sense of shared responsibility for the nation’s future.

He urged the diaspora to continue fostering patriotism and contributing to Vietnam’s journey toward prosperity, underscoring the government’s commitment to supporting overseas Vietnamese as an integral part of the nation.

“As the 2025 Lunar New Year approaches, we must seize this convergence of favorable conditions - heavenly timing, geographical advantage, and harmonious humanity - to confidently stride into a new era of development,” he said.

The evening’s performances, meticulously curated, celebrated Vietnam’s cultural heritage and unity across its three regions, blending the nostalgia of the past with the aspirations of the future.
