The College Board, the organization that administers the SAT, has announced two options for students who faced technical issues during the March 8 exam: cancel their scores and receive a free retest or retain their existing scores.

Technical issue in the March 8 SAT exam

Responding to inquiries from VietNamNet, the College Board confirmed that some test-takers experienced technical problems with the Bluebook application, causing their exams to be automatically submitted before they had completed them.

“We have identified the issue and implemented solutions to ensure stability in future exams,” said Holly Stepp, Director of Communications at the College Board.

While most students successfully completed the exam, the College Board extended a formal apology to those affected by the incident.

Options for affected students

To ensure fairness, the College Board has provided the following options for impacted students:

A full refund of the March 8 exam fee and a free SAT retake voucher for a future test date.

The choice to either cancel their March 8 scores and reschedule for a later date or retain their submitted scores.

Students’ reactions to the rescheduling options

Ha Tran, a parent whose child encountered the issue at Banking Academy’s test center in Vietnam, confirmed that she received an email from the College Board detailing the available solutions.

“The College Board has provided two options, both of which include a full refund of the exam fee. My child has chosen to retake the test on March 22 to ensure the best possible score,” she said.

SAT’s significance in university admissions

The SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) is a widely accepted standardized test used for university admissions in countries such as the United States, Canada, Australia, and Singapore.

In Vietnam, several universities - particularly those in technology, engineering, and economics - also accept SAT scores for direct or combined admissions.

The SAT registration fee in Vietnam is $111, approximately 2.8 million VND.
