At Ton Duc Thang University, the 2023 total revenue was VND1.157 trillion as reported in June 2024. Of this, VND997.4 billion came from tuition, while revenue from scientific research, innovation, knowledge transfer, and sponsors was VND53.22 billion. 

The university had other legal sources of revenue, worth VND102.35 billion, and VND4.23 billion from the state budget.

HCM City University of Industry had revenue of VND1.011 trillion in 2023, but most came from tuition (VND907.9 billion), while earnings from scientific research and technology transfer was very modest - VND4.37 billion. The figure was just half of that of 2022 (VND9.27 billion).

The Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) also reported modest revenue from science and technology development. Of the total revenue of VND2.137 trillion, VND1.43 trillion came from tuition and VND290 billion from the state budget. The most prestigious technology and engineering university only earned VND18 billion from science and technology development.

Compared with 2022, HUST’s total revenue rose twofold (VND2.137 trillion vs VND1.07 trillion). In 2022, its revenue from tuition was VND851 billion and funding from the state budget was VND122.2 billion, while revenue from science and technology research and development was just VND7.01 billion.

As for the University of National Economics, the leading school in economics and business, the total revenue reached VND1.4 trillion in 2023, including VND1.014 trillion from tuitions, VND324 billion from other sources of revenue, and VND42.95 billion from scientific research and technology transfer.

The HCM City University of Technology has reported total revenue of VND1.26 trillion in 2023, of which VND1.235 trillion came from tuition, VND14 billion from other sources, and only VND11 billion from science and technology development.

Tuition accounted for 99 percent of total revenue of Nguyen Tat Thanh University in 2023 (VND1.454 trillion vs VND1.475 trillion). In 2022, the school had total revenue of VND1.162 trillion and VND1.141 trillion was from tuition.

The same situation has been reported for other schools. The HCM City University of Technology and Education reported total revenue of VND909 billion in 2023, including VND850 billion from tuition. The figures were VND564.07 billion and VND481.57 billion for the International University belonging to Vietnam University, HCM City.

HCM City University of Economics is the educational institution with the best revenue from scientific research and technology transfer. In 2023, total revenue of the university was VND1,721.4 billion, of which VND1,068.8 billion came from tuition. Notably, revenue from scientific research and technology transfer for this university reached VND526.6 billion.
