Update news vietnam cinema industry
As 2025 begins, Vietnamese cinema is showing positive signs in terms of revenue. In just the first two months, four Vietnamese films have exceeded VNĐ100 billion in ticket sales, with some achieving this milestone in less than a week.
The Vietnamese box office in 2024 witnessed the remarkable dominance of Tran Thanh’s Mai and Ly Hai’s Lat Mat 7: Mot Dieu Uoc, both exceeding VND 1 trillion ($39.5 million) in combined revenue.
Last year, Vietnam box office reached US$150 million, or around 90 per cent of pre-pandemic levels, from a total of 1,100 screens. Not bad for a market that in 2010 only had 90 screens and annual revenue of less than $15 million.
The country's picturesque landscapes are increasingly featured in domestic and international film productions, effectively promoting Vietnam and its tourism.
After one week of release, the film ‘Suddenly Winning the Lottery’ earned VND 71 billion and remained firmly at No. 1 on the box office revenue chart. The film is one of the foreign films generating more revenue than locally produced films.
Dozens of film producers have sent a petition to the Government and HCM City People's Committee with the hope to restore operations soon and commit to ensuring safety during new anti-pandemic conditions.
