This morning, a fleet of 10 Mi-8 and Mi-17 helicopters, 6 Yak-130 aircraft, and 7 Su-30MK2 fighter jets took off from Bien Hoa Airport in Dong Nai and headed toward the skies above the city center.
This training exercise is part of the air force and air defense preparations for the grand parade and aerial performance commemorating 50 years of national unity.
Spectacular formations and dynamic rehearsals
Each group of aircraft took off approximately 3 to 5 minutes apart. Helicopters followed a 3-4-3 formation, while fighter jets grouped in formations of 3 to 4 aircraft, with the leading group maintaining a distance of 1 to 2 kilometers from the following group.
This is the first time that aerial training has been conducted in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, marking a significant milestone for the participating units.
Breathtaking views over the city
At 9:50 a.m., the squadrons passed over the Bitexco Financial Tower, creating a stunning display against the iconic skyscraper. In downtown District 1, the aircraft maintained an altitude of 350 to 400 meters. Upon reaching the riverbank at Bach Dang Wharf, where there were no obstructions, they descended to an altitude of about 200 meters.
Helicopters from Air Regiment 940 soared above the Saigon River, forming impressive patterns in the sky.
The aerial performance, scheduled for April 30, will feature complex acrobatics, including group splits, barrel rolls, rotations, and the release of heat flares, showcasing the advanced skills of Vietnam’s air force pilots.
