Following a record-breaking year in 2024, Vietnam’s coffee exports kicked off 2025 with impressive revenue. In just the first 15 days of the year, the country exported nearly 73,820 tons of coffee, earning close to $400 million (approximately 10,000 billion VND).
Record-breaking year for Vietnamese coffee
According to the General Department of Customs, Vietnam exported nearly 1.35 million tons of coffee in 2024, generating $5.62 billion - the highest revenue in history.
The average export price of Vietnamese coffee hit a record $4,158 per ton, with a peak in November 2024 when prices soared to $5,855 per ton.
Domestic coffee prices also reached historic highs, with raw coffee beans selling for 131,000 VND per kilogram. After deducting costs, farmers profited more than 90,000 VND per kilogram.
Early 2025 trends
Building on this success, coffee exports in the first half of January 2025 saw a significant increase in value.
Although export volume fell by 22.9% compared to the same period last year, export value surged by 41.3%, thanks to a sharp rise in prices.
The average export price of coffee during this period was $5,410 per ton, a 30.1% increase over the 2024 average price.
High demand and market outlook
The Central Highlands, Vietnam’s key coffee-growing region, is currently in the peak harvest season. Despite this, export prices remain robust, reflecting strong international demand.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has set a target of 1.98 million tons for total coffee production in 2025, a slight increase from 2024.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Department of Agriculture forecasts global coffee consumption for the 2024-2025 season to rise by 5.1 million bags, reaching 168.1 million bags. Vietnam’s coffee exports are expected to grow by 1.8 million bags, reaching 24.4 million bags, thanks to improved supply.
Domestic coffee prices currently range from 118,200 to 119,000 VND per kilogram. Prices are expected to rise slightly in the coming days as Vietnam’s coffee supply slows during the Tet holiday season.
Robust demand for Robusta coffee
On the international market, Robusta coffee prices continue to climb.
On January 21, Robusta futures for March 2025 delivery reached $5,143 per ton, while May 2025 futures rose to $5,090 per ton.
With strong international demand and rising prices, Vietnam’s coffee industry looks set for another promising year.
