The '.vn' domain now ranks 2nd in ASEAN and 40th globally, with over 630,000 registrations.

As of now, nearly 70,000 domains from new '.vn' domain spaces, including "id.vn," "io.vn," "ai.vn," and "biz.vn," have been registered and actively used, showcasing the growing value of Vietnam's national domain in the digital environment.

The Vietnam Internet Network Information Center (VNNIC) recently released the Vietnam Internet Resources Report 2024, emphasizing that domain names are foundational to most activities and services on the Internet.

Since April 1994, when the '.vn' domain officially joined the global Internet system, it has served as a symbol of Vietnam's identity and sovereignty on the digital map. With the values of "Recognition - Trust - Safety," the '.vn' domain not only represents the nation's digital presence but also acts as a bridge between businesses and customers, governments and citizens, enhancing opportunities and interactions across all facets of life.

As of 2024, the '.vn' domain has reached over 630,000 registrations, making it the second most popular domain in ASEAN, 10th in the Asia-Pacific region, and 40th globally, climbing six places since the end of 2020.

Notably, 14 provinces and cities in Vietnam now have more than 5,000 '.vn' domains each. Leading localities include Hanoi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, and Dong Nai.

To mark 30 years of the '.vn' domain’s global presence, VNNIC has intensified efforts to promote its adoption. The Ministry of Information and Communications has launched a nationwide program to encourage businesses, citizens, and households to establish a reliable and safe online presence using '.vn' domains. The program aims to reach one million '.vn' registrations by 2025, accelerating the digital transformation of Vietnam's government, economy, and society.

Recent efforts include initiatives such as the "Online Presence with National Domain" program in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union. This initiative prioritizes the "id.vn" domain for Vietnamese youth, offering incentives like waived registration and maintenance fees for those aged 18–23.

Similarly, businesses and sole proprietorships are encouraged to adopt the "biz.vn" domain under favorable conditions, including reduced registration and renewal fees.

In addition, VNNIC's Unitour campaign, held in partnership with the Vietnam E-commerce Association (VECOM), has toured 25 universities, receiving enthusiastic support from students and promoting the adoption of '.vn' domains.

The introduction of new domain spaces like "io.vn," "ai.vn," "id.vn," and "biz.vn" has garnered significant attention, with nearly 70,000 registrations to date. These specialized domains reflect a dynamic shift in the community’s efforts to maximize the value of the '.vn' domain in the digital age.

According to Tran Thi Thu Hien, Deputy Director of VNNIC, the new regulations in Decree 147, which govern Internet resource management, include fee exemptions and reductions to encourage wider adoption of '.vn' domains.

For instance, Vietnamese citizens aged 18–23 are eligible for free or discounted registration and maintenance of the "id.vn" domain. Businesses with legal registration certificates are similarly supported in adopting "biz.vn" domains to build their online presence and brand.
