During the peak travel period for the April 30 - May 1 holiday, domestic airlines in Vietnam are expected to operate 7,536 flights, averaging 685 flights per day.
A representative from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) announced that in preparation for the holiday and the peak summer season in 2025, domestic airlines have proactively increased their resources, added aircraft, and planned additional flights, particularly boosting capacity on domestic routes.
Surge in domestic flights and seating capacity
Vietnamese airlines are projected to operate 7,536 domestic flights during the holiday period, representing increases of 24% in the number of flights and 21% in daily average.
The total seat capacity for the period is estimated at around 1.5 million seats, an increase of 20% compared to the regular flight schedule and 22% compared to the same period last year.
Most of these flights are on routes to and from Ho Chi Minh City, with approximately 5,083 flights (462 flights per day on average), marking a 21% rise in both total and daily frequency.
The busy Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route alone will account for 1,261 flights, offering 305,000 seats.
During the summer peak period from May 15 to August 15, 2025, domestic airlines are expected to operate 68,558 flights. Popular tourist destinations such as Cam Ranh, Phu Quoc, Da Lat, and Quy Nhon will see over 20,000 flights, making up 30% of the total flight volume.
On trunk routes connecting Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City, airlines are projected to operate 26,800 flights, providing nearly 5.9 million seats. Specifically, flights to and from Ho Chi Minh City will total 45,000 with approximately 9.23 million seats, averaging 490 flights per day.
Increased flight frequency at Tan Son Nhat Airport
Due to high demand, ticket prices for some tourist routes have surged. As of March 24, fares for routes like Ho Chi Minh City - Da Nang with Vietnam Airlines from March 29 to May 2 have increased by about 68% to nearly $102 (2.5 million VND) per ticket. Meanwhile, Vietjet Air fares have risen by 80% to around $36 (890,000 VND) per ticket, excluding taxes and fees.
For the Ho Chi Minh City - Phu Quoc route, fares with Vietnam Airlines from April 29 to May 2 have surged by 73% to about $78 (1.9 million VND) per ticket. Vietjet Air fares have doubled to over $41 (1 million VND), excluding taxes and fees.
To meet market demand and accommodate increased flight volumes, the CAAV has adjusted coordination parameters at Tan Son Nhat International Airport. The new coordination rates are set at 46 flights per hour during the day and 36 flights per hour at night for the holiday period.
Additionally, for the peak summer period of 2025 and National Day on September 2, the coordination rate will be maintained at 44-46 flights per hour during the day and 36 flights per hour at night.
