Speaking to local media on January 6, deputy head of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), Dinh Viet Son, said that they had informed local airlines about their plan to increase flights to China after the Civil Aviation Administration Of China (CAAC) announced the removal of certain Covid-19 restrictions on international passenger flights from January 8, 2023. 

"Local airlines are allowed to re-open flights to China at a frequency noted in the bilateral transport agreements signed by authorities of the two countries, or as run previous to the Covid-19 pandemic," Son said. "The restrictions on the number of passengers on flights will be removed."

Son asked airlines to quickly send proposals to resume their routes for approval from January 8.

China will remove certain Covid-19 restrictions on international passenger flights from January 8, CAAC said on Wednesday.

The country will no longer identify high-risk inbound flights, nor will it limit the passenger load factor for inbound flights at 75 percent.

CAAC said that China would gradually resume accepting applications for international passenger charter flights from domestic and foreign airlines, and fully restore pre-pandemic processes and requirements in the summer and autumn of 2023.
