A tough race ends in injury for Vietnamese competitor

Competing in the 117.7 km men's junior road race, Nguyen Dan Binh was among a team of four Vietnamese riders, alongside Phung Quoc Ha, Dang Van Phap, and Pham Anh Hao. The race was highly competitive, pushing riders to their limits on a challenging course.

Unfortunately, Dan Binh was involved in a crash with other cyclists, causing him to fall heavily. The accident resulted in his bike’s frame snapping in half, and he suffered injuries to his shoulder and ankle.

Due to the severity of his condition, he had to withdraw from the race and be taken to the hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.

Nguyen Ngoc Vu, head of the Vietnamese delegation at the Asian Cycling Championship, confirmed that Dan Binh's condition is being closely monitored by doctors. Since his bike was borrowed from the organizers, the Vietnamese team must compensate for the damage.

Following the incident, the Vietnamese team faced difficulties in maintaining a strong performance. The best result among the four young riders was achieved by Dang Van Phap, who finished in seventh place.

In the final results of the event, Yip Hon Man of Hong Kong secured the gold medal, Mirbagheri of Iran claimed silver, and Sakuntae Thanapat of Thailand took bronze.

Vietnam secures two gold medals at the championship

Despite Dan Binh’s accident, Vietnam has performed well in other events, securing two gold medals so far. Hoang Hai Nam won gold in the men’s individual time trial (over 60 years old), while Ton Hoang Khanh Lan triumphed in the women’s road race.

The 2025 Asian Road Cycling Championship will conclude on February 16.
