Originally built over 1,000 years ago, the temple has been restored with intricate woodwork and vibrant gold leaf, making it one of the most magnificent religious sites in Vietnam.

Nestled on a small island in Ninh Binh’s Hoa Lu City, Bat Long Pagoda, also known as the Golden Temple, captivates visitors with its shimmering golden exterior and picturesque surroundings.
Located in the middle of Ca Voi Lake (also called Nui Lo Lake), the temple offers a serene and spiritual retreat for both locals and tourists.
Built on the site of the ancient Bat Long Tu, which was originally constructed over 1,000 years ago by King Le Dai Hanh, the temple blends traditional Vietnamese architecture with exquisite golden embellishments, making it one of the most visually striking religious sites in the region.
A unique architectural masterpiece
According to the temple’s management board, Bat Long Pagoda follows an eight-sided architectural design, with each side facing a different direction.
The entire structure is made from precious lim wood, complemented by solid green stone columns and a gracefully curved tiled roof in the traditional Vietnamese style.
For years, visitors could only reach the temple by boat. However, a floating bridge has now been installed, allowing easier access for pilgrims and tourists.
Upon entering Bat Long Pagoda, visitors are mesmerized by the golden details that adorn both the interior and exterior - from intricate carvings and decorative panels to gilded calligraphy and the signature curved roof.
A growing tourist attraction in Ninh Binh
Hoang Phuong, a visitor, shared her excitement: “I had heard so much about this golden temple in the middle of the lake. During my trip to Ninh Binh, I made sure to visit, and it truly exceeded my expectations. It looks like a magnificent painting set against the vast waters.”
Thanks to its breathtaking natural setting, rich history, and unique architecture, Bat Long Pagoda has quickly become a must-visit destination, drawing both domestic and international tourists.
