According to CNN's list released on April 20, banh mi are typically sold from food carts and can be found on nearly every street corner of Ho Chi Minh City, as well as across Vietnam as a whole, with the delicacy being widely loved well beyond the country’s borders.
The classic version of Vietnamese banh mi is pork-based, featuring cha lua (Vietnamese-style pork roll), shredded pickled carrots, pickled daikon, cilantro leaves, mayonnaise, and other ingredients.
Visitors can discover plenty of different variations with tofu and thinly sliced lemongrass chicken, it said. “The taste is crunchy, fresh, savory and utterly delicious,” the site commented.
CNN’s list also included torta ahogada of Mexico, tramezzino of Italy, shawarma of the Middle East, pambazo of Mexico, muffaletta from the American city of New Orleans, chivito of Uruguay, pan bagnat of France, smørrebrød of Denmark, spatlo of South Africa, Montreal smoked meat sandwich of Canada, and Po’boy of New Orleans (USA).
