Experts discussed the issue at Meet Da Nang 2024, organized by the Da Nang People’s Committee on January 26, attracting 300 attendees from Vietnam and other countries.

AmCham Da Nang Chair Christopher Vanloon noted that 35 US businesses have total investment capital of $700 million in the city. Aerospace and semiconductors are two fields that American businesses are interested in. 

However, he said the labor force in Da Nang cannot satisfy demand and businesses have to seek workers from other cities, including Hanoi and HCM City.

Japanese Consul General in Da Nang Yakabe Yoshinori said Japanese enterprises in the city lack high-quality workers. However, he noted that the city has universities providing training in high technology, semiconductors and cybersecurity. 

The city has established the Da Nang Semiconductor and Artificial Intelligence Center for Research and Training (DSAC) to develop a qualified workforce.

Chair of Da Nang People’s Committee Le Trung Chinh said the city will focus on improving workers’ capability, as well as their Japanese and Korean language skills. 

He said high technology, seaports, aviation, smart cities, innovation and digital transformation are the top priorities of the city. 

“Da Nang has prepared land banks, and has ample resources and is ready to offer attractive policies to businesses,” he said. “We will give the highest possible support to enterprises."

Da Nang Party Committee’s Secretary Nguyen Van Quang said the city will provide the best conditions to strengthen international integration, improve the business environment, and speed up administration reform.

The city is conducting urban planning and infrastructure development to get ready to welcome the investment inflow, especially infrastructure in IT industrial zones (IZ) and high-tech parks. 

It is speeding up work on the cargo terminal at the Da Nang International Airport and a project in Lien Chieu Harbor. 

At the event, municipal authorities granted an investment approval document to a $20 million aerospace project registered by South Korean KP Aero.
