Hanoi Public Art Design Contest 2022

To realise the Implementation plan of initiatives to join the UNESCO Creative Cities Network by 2025, Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, the Architecture Magazine – Vietnam Association of Architects, and UN-Habitat jointly hold the launch event for Hanoi Public Art Design Contest 2022. This event is part of the Creative Design Festival 2022, which is expected to take place in November 2022 in different locations across the Hanoi Old Quarter. The entire programme is executed under the direction of the Hanoi People’s Committee and the Vietnam Association of Architects.

Hanoi Public Art Design Contest 2022 aims to encourage young people (especially university students) to explore the cultural and historical values in Hanoi Old Quarter, and propose design ideas for public art spaces (indoor and outdoor) in order to initiate creative design solutions with new technology as well as educational and aesthetic values, which help bring arts and creativity closer to the general public. Young people joining the contest will get to attend seminars, workshops, and training to perfect their ideas and improve their professional skills.

The contest is organised with the support from the Hoan Kiem District People’s Committee and expertise coordination from Hanoi University of Civil Engineering; Hanoi Architectural University; University of Industrial Fine Arts; Vietnam National University – Hanoi; and the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi.

The organisers will present five prizes valued at 15 to 30 million VND each for the most excellent ideas. The award ceremony of the Hanoi Public Art Design Contest 2022 will be held on the same day as the opening ceremony of the Creative Design Festival 2022, which is set for November 11, 2022.

Exhibition features dialogue between calligraphy, graffiti

An exhibition named “Calligraphy – Graffiti Dialogue” featuring 39 works of calligraphy and graffiti by Vietnamese calligraphers and graffiti artists across the country.

The works are arranged like a story about two people with different personalities and the dialogue which brings them together to empathise and share with each other.

Len Lỏi Exhibition is a speculative spatial design project which intentionally challenges one’s perception and understanding of hẻm (alley) in District 4, Ho Chi Minh city. Drawing from students’ multiple research approaches, engagement with locals and place experiences, a series of multifunctional adaptive reuse commercial spaces designed by students in Interior Stream – Design Studies at RMIT University is finally ready to be showcased.

From June 30, 2022, Vincom Center for Contemporary Art (VCCA) introduces artist Le Giang’s solo exhibition – “Future Perfect”, displaying more than 20 works including gem paintings, sculptures and video installations, as the result of Le Giang’s research and composition over the past year.

Movement by Mzung Nguyen is a solo exhibition, a visual essay reflecting the transition of urban life through a mixed discipline of collage-art practices. In terms of materials, this project collects and reuses hundreds of old magazines, which have been published during the past decade. Mzung Nguyen finds motivation in tracking the shifts in time and space, the replacement of old and new values, the cultural disparity between tradition and modernity, and the contrasts between human life and the natural world that are printed out in these old publications.

The show will present Duy Phương’s long-term photography projects, “Volatile States” (2010 – 2017) and “Mirages” (2017 – 2022). Nguyen Art Foundation (NAF) proudly invites you to the opening of ‘Illuminated Curiosities’, a group exhibition with 26 artists featuring 46 artworks from within and outside NAF’s Collection. Curated by art researcher Ace Le, with the curatorial assistance from Duong Manh Hung and Tam Nguyen, the exhibition will take place simultaneously across the campuses of EMASI Nam Long and EMASI Van Phuc, over the course of six months from May to December of 2022. ‘Illuminated Curiosities’ is a collaborative effort between NAF and Lan Tinh Foundation.

Exhibition spotlights tigers in Vietnam’s ancient art
