This morning (October 25), the People's Committee of District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, held a conference to review the pilot program and announced the expansion of sidewalk rentals for business services on 52 eligible streets.
Five months ago, the district began piloting sidewalk rentals on 11 streets. The initiative saw 374 registrations, generating over VND 810 million in fees.
Vu Nguyen Quang Vinh, Deputy Chairman of the District 1 People's Committee, stated that the sidewalk rental fee program has contributed to improving urban order, creating a more organized landscape, and ensuring safe and clear pedestrian pathways without disrupting general traffic. Additionally, the use of technology in managing sidewalk rentals has reduced administrative procedures, saving costs and manpower.
In the coming period, District 1 will extend the sidewalk rental program to 52 streets (adding 41 new streets compared to the pilot phase). All selected streets meet the necessary infrastructure criteria and will not interfere with traffic flow.
“When the program is expanded across 52 streets, the workload for the wards will increase fourfold compared to the pilot phase. Therefore, during the implementation, the cooperation and compliance of organizations and individuals are crucial. Relevant agencies must also enhance monitoring and management," emphasized Mr. Vinh.
