On the afternoon of December 10, Tran Quang Lam, Director of the Department of Transport, presented updates on the progress and objectives of Ho Chi Minh City’s metro system development during a session of the city’s People’s Council.

According to the initial proposal, the city planned to complete 183 km of metro lines by 2035, 168 km by 2045, and an additional 159 km by 2060, for a total of 510 km.

However, during the session, Director Lam explained significant updates to these plans.

Ho Chi Minh City, guided by directives from the Prime Minister and input from the Ministry of Transport, has expedited its metro development plans.

The updated proposal includes: 355 km of metro lines completed by 2035, with an estimated investment of $40.21 billion; An additional 155 km completed by 2045, bringing the total metro network to 510 km.

This revision effectively doubles the scale of investment for the 2035 target, up from 183 km to 355 km. The timeline for completing the full 510 km network has been shortened by 15 years, moving from 2060 to 2045.
