On December 17, nearly 100 electric buses designed to connect passengers to Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) arrived in Ho Chi Minh City, preparing to serve commuters starting December 20.
The buses are stationed at a large terminal spanning thousands of square meters along National Highway 13 in Thu Duc City.
Currently, Futabuslines — the transport company awarded the operation contract — is finalizing the preparations for the electric buses, including applying logos, installing signage, decorating exteriors, and setting up rearview mirrors.
The terminal is also being equipped with 15 charging stations with capacities of 180 kWh and 240 kWh, ensuring fast and efficient charging to support the continuous operation of the electric bus fleet.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, all 17 bus routes connecting to the metro stations will be operated using electric buses to promote environmental protection. These buses feature a distinctive visual identity, with exterior designs incorporating harmonious blue and yellow wave-like patterns for easy recognition.
Both the front and rear of the buses are equipped with LED display systems to show route numbers and names.
The buses also include various modern amenities, such as WiFi, air conditioning systems, electronic route displays, and accessible spaces for passengers with disabilities, creating a convenient and comfortable commuting experience.
The electric bus network will officially launch on December 20, two days before Metro Line 1 begins its trial operation.
The electric buses will connect metro stations to residential areas, bus terminals, high-tech zones, shopping centers, and universities. Launching these 17 electric bus routes in advance will allow commuters to familiarize themselves with the system and create convenient access to metro stations when Metro Line 1 begins operation.
