The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Council has approved the streamlining and merger of city departments, reducing the number of specialized agencies from 21 to 16. As part of this restructuring, seven new department heads have been officially appointed.

On the afternoon of February 20, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee announced key personnel appointments following the city's departmental mergers and administrative streamlining.

The seven newly appointed directors are:

Lam Dinh Thang, Director of the Department of Science and Technology, overseeing the newly merged Department of Science and Technology and the Department of Information and Communications.

Tran Hoang Quan, Director of the Department of Construction, formed by merging the Department of Planning and Architecture with the Department of Construction.

Tran Quang Lam, Director of the Department of Public Works, which was reorganized from the Department of Transport, inheriting its current functions while also taking on certain responsibilities from the Department of Construction, including infrastructure management and the Office of Traffic Safety.

Vo Ngoc Quoc Thuan, Director of the Department of Home Affairs, which now includes functions previously handled by the Department of Home Affairs and the Department of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs.

Le Thi Huynh Mai, Director of the Department of Planning and Investment, which now integrates the functions of the Department of Planning and Investment and the Department of Finance.

Nguyen Toan Thang, Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, which now encompasses the former Department of Natural Resources and Environment along with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Nguyen Duy Tan, formerly Deputy Director of the Department of Home Affairs, now appointed as Director of the Department of Ethnic and Religious Affairs.

In addition to these appointments, leadership for nine other city departments remains unchanged. These include:

Tran Van Bay, Chief Inspector of Ho Chi Minh City

Nguyen Thi Anh Hoa, Director of the Department of Tourism

Tran The Thuan, Director of the Department of Culture and Sports

Tang Chi Thuong, Director of the Department of Health

Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Department of Education and Training

Nguyen Thi Hong Hanh, Director of the Department of Justice

Bui Ta Hoang Vu, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade

Pham Khanh Phong Lan, Director of the Department of Food Safety

Dang Quoc Toan, Chief of the Office of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee

Additionally, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has issued a series of appointments for deputy-level officials across various departments and localities, following approval from the People’s Council regarding the city’s newly restructured administrative units.
