Love story with man who declared love nine times
Alongside her story about struggling against disease, Huyen is also famous for her ‘small rain lays great dust’ romantic love story.
In a recent video, Huyen revealed, "I have a boyfriend. Surprising, right? A sick girl, who has battled cancer twice, has a boyfriend! And I'm even known as a 'love destroyer.' The fact that I have a love and a movie-like love story is so hard to believe."
Her boyfriend, Tran Hai, 31, from Ha Tinh, first met Huyen in 2017 when they worked together at a corporation. Huyen was a graphic design intern, while Hai was an information technology officer.
They met at the corporation's birthday party, where Hai was attracted to Huyen at first sight, though she didn't notice. In March 2018, after Huyen quit her job and Hai moved abroad, they began talking.
"He sent messages asking me to design banners, and only on the third time did he mention we had worked together. Later, he confessed he liked me right at the first meeting," Huyen recalled.
In 2018-2019, Hai declared his love to Huyen nine times via text and in person. During that time, he sometimes returned to Vietnam to visit her.
In Hai’s eyes, Huyen’s serious illness, bone cancer and leg amputation is not a problem. He even admired her resilience.
"At first, he was serious and shy about his confessions. Later, he was more relaxed and cheerful. He's introverted, not overly romantic, but very sincere in love,” Huyen recalled.
“At that moment, I was immature and I only liked romantic people, so I wasn’t moved by him," Huyen said.
In 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic broke out, Hai could not return to Vietnam, while Huyen spent most of her time to work, so they did not keep contact. Three years later, Hai returned to Vietnam to work and once again contacted her, at the time when Huyen once again discovered her serious illness.
Learning about her illness, Hai spent all his time to take care of her. During her hospital treatment for lung cancer, he was by her side, keeping her spirits up.
When Huyen returned home to rest, Hai took her to Moc Chau, Ha Giang, Da Lat and HCM City, or anywhere she wanted to go.
He was willing to quit his full-time job to work as a freelancer, as this allowed him to care for his girlfriend.
Whenever Huyen experienced hair loss, sensitive skin, and other side effects from chemotherapy, Hai comforted her. "After treatment, your hair will grow back, your skin will heal. In my eyes, you're always beautiful," he told her.
