National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man recently signed a resolution from the Standing Committee of the National Assembly, allowing for the appointment of additional deputy ministers at the newly formed Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.
According to the resolution, the ministry will have up to ten deputy ministers to accommodate personnel arrangements following the government’s restructuring efforts aimed at streamlining administrative organizations.
Before the merger, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment had four deputy ministers, while the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development had six. The new appointments will maintain leadership continuity and ensure smooth governance in the merged entity.
Recently, the National Assembly approved the appointment of Do Duc Duy, former Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, as the Minister of Agriculture and Environment.
Following the merger, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment will operate with 30 divisions, reducing the total number of units by 25, a 45.5% reduction. The ministry will have a staff of 2,890 civil servants and 12,203 public employees.
More deputy minister positions approved across other ministries
The Standing Committee of the National Assembly has also passed resolutions allowing five other ministries to increase the number of deputy ministers.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will add one deputy minister, bringing the total to seven. The Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Construction will each add four deputy ministers, raising their total to nine.
The Ministry of Home Affairs will gain two additional deputy ministers, increasing its total to seven. Meanwhile, the State Bank of Vietnam will add one deputy governor, bringing the total number of deputy governors to six.
