On April 1, the Economic Police Department of the Khanh Hoa Provincial Police, in coordination with the Sub-Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services and other relevant units, inspected two hatcheries in Ba Ngoi Ward and Cam Phuoc Dong Commune, Cam Ranh City.
During the inspection, authorities found nearly 250,000 juvenile lobsters in holding tanks at the two facilities. However, the owners were unable to present any documentation verifying the origin of the stock.
The inspection team documented the findings and seized all the juvenile lobsters for further investigation. Initial assessments suggest the case may involve commercial fraud and tax evasion. Authorities have opened a file for legal processing.
Cam Ranh City is home to approximately 70,000 to 80,000 lobster cages, yielding an annual output of 2,600 to 3,000 tons. It is considered the lobster farming hub of Khanh Hoa Province.
According to Khanh Hoa police, the timely intervention to prevent the circulation of a large number of undocumented juvenile lobsters will help limit the spread of disease, protect healthy breeding stock, and ensure safety for the local aquaculture industry.
