Vietnam’s top female volleyball player, Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, has confirmed her participation in the upcoming selection process for foreign players in South Korea’s national volleyball league for the 2025/26 season.

Amid reports of her potential move, Thanh Thuy revealed that she has officially submitted her application for the try-out process required for all foreign players. She has also completed the necessary paperwork requested by the Korea Volleyball Federation and is awaiting further instructions.

The VTV Binh Dien Long An star is among 45 Asian female spikers applying for the trials, where only a select few will secure contracts. However, given her international experience and skill level, Thanh Thuy is expected to meet the league’s rigorous standards.

Recently, a sports editor from KBSN Sport, a South Korean TV station, compared Thanh Thuy’s playing style to that of volleyball legend Kim Yeon Koung, stating, “I was genuinely surprised that Vietnam has such a talented volleyball player. She has the height and attack power comparable to Kim Yeon Koung.”

Potential salary and career growth

If Thanh Thuy secures a spot in the Korean V-League, she will not only gain valuable professional experience but also receive a substantial salary.

According to statistics from The Spike, an Asian spiker in the league typically earns around $120,000 in the first year and approximately $150,000 in the second year. These figures make the Korean league one of the most attractive destinations for top volleyball players in Asia.

Before making her anticipated move, Thanh Thuy remains focused on her duties with VTV Binh Dien Long An. She is set to compete in the Hoa Lu - Binh Dien Cup (March 4-9) in Ninh Binh and the first phase of the Vietnamese national championship (March 22-31) in Hanoi.

Her journey to South Korea is expected to begin in May 2025, marking a significant step in her volleyball career.
